These past few days I have been working on my jewelry at home. I realized that jewelry takes more time than many people presume. I got all of my large pieces cut out. So far I haven't broken a saw blade. Typically they break frequently in one practice, but I have really developed a skill with the saw. I am glad that the sawing is over with. After I finished my sawing experience I began to use the hammer and mold my swirls that I am using for a necklace. I prefer this look over the polished look, it is very "hand-made" looking.
Today, I learned mainly how to sweat solder. At first I was intimidated by the fire, but after a while I became calm. As you heat up the metal it changes colors rapidly. It is very odd, especially when the solder begins to melt. The copper pieces would change from black to purple to orange and then to red. I found it quite entertaining. I completed one set of earrings, but I have to file them down tonight.
